10 Amazing 2010 Weekly Themes

Week 1 | June 1-4 | Pirates and Princesses
Errrr matey - hoist me black and white flag and prepare to set sail as we voyage across the Tatesibbean. Adventure awaits us in every port where "X" marks the spot and buried treasure is within our reach. We'll have a swashbuckling good time, and nobody has to walk the plank except for maybe an old counselor or two. Shiver me timbers!

Week 2 | June 7-11 | Weird Science
Welcome to the world of amazing experiments and cool activities that make you say WOW! We will join our make-believe, yet legendary, Professor Theodore Themopolis for a journey into the realm of scientific discovery. With one part science and two parts imagination combined with some systematic knowledge, the campus is our laboratory. White coats on - beakers in hand -- here we go!

Week 3 | June 14-18 | Indiana Jones and the Legend of Taboo's Lost Treasure
It’s a race against the clock as all campers join Indiana Jones in the hunt for Taboo the Squirrel’s lost treasure. Suspicion lurks around every corner as mystery and intrigue creep into the camp. Was spunky the skunk involved? What about Fred Red Fox? Has anyone even seen Taboo this week . . . ? Together we will search for clues and hopefully discover the treasure before time runs out!

Week 4 | June 21-25 |
Rock Star

Crank up the volume and hold onto your six string as we travel from Motown to Hollywood without ever leaving our 52-acre city of the stars. Participate in celebrity dress up day; have the opportunity to perform in talent shows; or join a fan club and cast your vote for the next Tate's Icon. Your limousine is wating at the end of the red carpet.

Week 5 | June 28-July 2 |
Hawaiian Beach Party

Grab your leis and grass skirts as we welcome the month of July by taking a "Hawaiian Beach Party" vacation to the Tate's Tropics. Enjoy a luau at one of our three refreshing swimming pools, whiz down the slip n’ slide, and win daily prizes by finding the hidden magical flip flops. We’re even going to break out the limbo pole . . . how low can you go?

Week 6 | July 5-9 | Wild West
Howdy pardner – let’s giddy up and hit the trail as we head back to explore the days of yesteryear. Meet me at the General Store where we’ll gather some supplies including games without batteries, some maps to the old Tate’s Gold mine, and a little grub to throw on the campfire along the way. And to round out the week, we’re going to have a Tate’s County Fair. Yeeee doggies . . . I can't wait!

Camp imageWeek 7 | July 12-16 | Around the World in 5 Days
Ladies and gentlemen, please turn off all electronics and return your tray tables and seatbacks to their full and upright positions as we embark on a journey around the world. Each day will take us to new and exciting places as we experience different cultures, games, contests, and make some amazing memories. Don’t forget your passport!

Week 8 | July 19-23 | Halloween in July
Boooo! Break out the costumes, fluff up the scarecrow, and gather around the campfire for some apple cider and ghost stories because we’re waiving our magic wands and celebrating Halloween early this year. That’s right - this was among the top three most requested themes for 2010 and we just couldn’t resist a week of Halloween fun including a day of trick or treating.

The tribal lines are drawn and spirit fills the air! Teams participate in friendly competitions to gain points throughout the week. Some challenges involve skill and energy while others involve thought and problem solving. Group unity and participation are essential. All eyes are focused on the closing tribal council where the team with the most points will be crowned the new Tate's Survivor.

Week 10 | August 2-6 | Wild Water
Some things just shouldn't be changed . . . and this is one of them. As is tradition, we are pleased to close out the summer with our ever popular Wild Water Week! So, gather the squirters, stretch out the water hose, soap up the slip n' slide and crank up the swimming pools because this week promises to be packed with wet and wild FUN. You will feel the excitement all the way from your head to your wrinkled toes.

 

2010 Specialty Camps

Web Design 101 | entering grades 4th-6th | Session 1 - June 7-11 Session 2 - June 14-18 | Cost: $266
Power switch on, CPU fired up and seat belt fastened - hold on tight as we prepare to launch into the realm of website design. Campers will learn the basics of designing a site, writing for the web, incorporating multimedia and Internet safety awareness. This camp will be taught by Tate's School Technology Specialist, Misty Anderson, and held in the school's state-of-the-art computer lab. Participants will have their own computer and work to create their own individual website for family and friends. Campers will spend each day in the computer camp until 2:00 PM. The remainder of the camp day will include swimming and other camp activities.

Tate’s “Evidence” Art Camp | entering grades 4th-6th | June 21-25 | Cost: $269
Use your eyes! Capture “evidence” of your world both real and imagined while working to create an art book: “Evidence of a Week at Camp.” Based on the art of the late New York artist, Candy Jernigan, we will explore making found objects into art. We will emphasize sketchbook journaling and expressing how you feel about your surroundings and experiences. We will do this through lots of drawing (done both outside and inside), painting and collage. Watercolor, pastels and colored pencils will be some of the mediums available. All supplies including sketchbook and pencils are included in the cost of the camp. Instructor Alice Carroll has been teaching art for 15 years and this is her seventh summer leading the Tate's Art Camp. Campers will spend each day in the art camp until 2:00 PM. The remainder of the camp day will include swimming and other camp activities.

Tennis Camp | entering grades 4th-6th | July 5-9 | Cost: $266
Take to the court and learn the fundamentals of tennis. Structured for both beginner and intermediate players, this camp will cover tennis etiquette, rules, scoring, and basic strokes. Learn forehand, backhand, lob, drop shot and serve. Campers will gain confidence in their abilities through hands-on games, drills and mini tournaments. The camp will also include information on proper warm-ups, nutrition, injury prevention and basic first-aid associated with tennis. Led by Tate's School Physical Education teacher, Yvonne Cook-Rose, campers will spend each morning until lunchtime (12:00 noon) in the tennis camp and the remainder of the camp day after lunch will include swimming and other camp activities.

Basketball Camp | entering grades 5th-8th | July 12-16 | Cost: $266
Dribble, pass, shoot . . . score! This coed camp will focus primarily on offensive movement and shooting form. Major elements will include passing, ball handling and off-the-ball movement with opportunities to sharpen both one-on-one play as well as team skills. Campers will participate in training drills and competitive sessions, including one-on-one; three-on-three; and full game competition. Campers of all skill levels who are interested in improving their basketball fundamentals and being involved in competitive play can benefit from this training camp. Coach Karen Katcham is a middle school teacher and has been coaching basketball for nine years. She also worked five years as a Tate's Adventure Counselor. Campers will spend each day in the basketball camp until 2:00 PM. The remainder of the camp day will include swimming and other camp activities.

Drama Camp | entering grades 4th-6th | July 19-23 | Cost: $266
All the world's a stage. Come and enjoy the exciting world of theatre, where we will go behind the scenes and learn about the key components of how a theatre operates. We will learn about scene and set building, costuming, props, lighting and of course acting. The closing activity will be a show stopping performance that incorporates all we have learned throughout the week. Drama instructor, Scarlett Ledford, is a sixth year Tate’s Camp Counselor. All theatre supplies will be provided. Get ready to break a leg!

Lacrosse Camp | entering grades 3rd-5th | July 26-30 | Cost: $266
Take to the field and learn to play the first sport played on the North American Continent! This co-ed and non contact camp will be structured for both beginner and intermediate level players who have never played lacrosse. Campers will learn the basic rules and fundamentals associated with the sport: passing, catching, shooting, and more. Campers will gain confidence in themselves and team members through drills and competitions in the mornings and scrimmages held each afternoon. Instructor Taylor Clark is the head coach for the Knoxville Lacrosse club and has many years of experience as both a player and a coach. Campers will spend each day in the lacrosse camp until 2:00 PM. The remainder of the camp day will include swimming and other camp activities.
